As the game continues, Green chips are added to the 'fate pot.' At the start of each session and sometimes throughout the game, players will draw from this pot (not knowing what color they're about to get.) Throughout play, they will be able to spend these chips for varied effects on die rolls.

There are 50 white chips, 25 red chips and 10 blue chips. As such, I need yet a third deck of playing cards kept track of seperately.įinally, the Deadlands experience system is handled with different colored poker chips. Huckster cards are -always- shuffled back into their deck at the end of a hand. You assemble the best 5 card hand you can, and that in turn tells you how powerful the spell you cast is. The better you do on your roll, the more cards you are dealt in addition to the 5 base cards. This functions the same way, however it is a -seperate deck of cards- from the Player's action deck.ĭeadlands magic is worked based on poker hands. The Marshall (GM) has his own Action Deck for his badguys. The same 'action' deck continues to be drawn from until someone pulls a Black Joker, at which point all the cards are shuffled back into the action deck. Ties are resolved by suit (spades beats hearts beats diamonds beats clubs.) It is important to know who has what cards, and it is important that the cards not be shuffled back into the deck until I need them to be. Characters take their turn when their card is called. The combat round consists of a countdown, starting with Ace and then moving to King, then Queen, and so forth.

A character rolls their Quickness stat, and the result of their roll in turn tells them how many cards they get to draw.

Each deck of playing cards includes a Red joker and a Black joker, which translate into 'critical success' card and 'critical failure' card respectively. I want to run a Deadlands game online, but I don't want to remove a lot of the fun from the system by resolving it on my desk while I GM for people.ĭeadlands initiative system involves the use of two decks of playing cards. If anyone here has ever played Deadlands (classic system) then you can feel free to skip to the line break, as I'm simply explaining the mechanics I need to cover for this to work. I think this is the right forum for this.
